DGDA approves 1st locally made Covid testing kit
The Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) has approved the RT-PCR coronavirus testing kit of OMC Healthcare for commercial production.
This is the first ever locally developed Covid-19 testing kit to get formal approval from the health authority.
The company received the approval on 3 January, but it disclosed the issue on Saturday through a press release.
However, a spokesperson of the DGDA, Ayub Hossain also confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
Mezbahul Kabir, the chief executive officer of OMC HealthCare, said now they have the capacity to produce 40 to 50 thousand kits every day.
"We can expand the capacity as per requirement. To ensure the highest quality of our kit, we have used an automatic production line," he said, expressing optimism that the RT-PCR kit would play a significant role in the country's battle against covid-19.
