Rajshahi district administration launches mobile vegetable market
Depending on the situation, mobile markets will gradually be launched at the upazila level too
The Rajshahi district administration, Department of Agricultural Extension and Department of Agricultural Marketing have jointly set up a mobile vegetable market to curb the spread of coronavirus by discouraging people from going to the markets.
Under the initiative, the mobile market sold vegetables at fair prices in various places across the city on Tuesday morning. Depending on the situation, mobile markets will gradually be launched at the upazila level too.
Deputy Director of the Rajshahi Agricultural Extension Department Md Shamsul Haque said the operation was started at the behest of the deputy commissioner.
Around 15 types of vegetables, weighing 120kg, were purchased from the wholesale market of Shaheb Bazar area on Tuesday morning. Those were then sold from a vehicle of the district administration in the Hatemkha, Sabjipara and City College areas of the city.
On the first day, there was a huge response from the citizens.
The mobile vegetable market will operate every day to discourage citizens from going to the markets and to curb coronavirus infections.
