‘Share Your Fare’: An initiative aiming to support marginalised Rickshaw Pullers
The novel Coronavirus has affected people in different ways. In Bangladesh, the impact is much more severe than others, as a lot of people work in the informal sector, who do not have access to earning their incomes by working from home. Their job security is very low, as they primarily depend on wages earned through manual labour
With no commuters to avail rickshaw services and streets lying empty, rickshaw pullers across the country are facing hard times by having near to no income. This vulnerable community requires immediate support to cope with the impacts of the coronavirus outbreak.
To gear up community support initiatives, 'Share Your Fare' a unique project came up with a noble intention to support the rickshaw pullers community.
The project has been initiated in collaboration with Beatnik & Leaping Boundaries to raise funds for the rickshaw puller community. The initiative humbly invites those fortunate to share some of their saved fare with the rickshaw puller community directly or through the 'Share your fare' project.
The project targets to raise BDT 210,000 in its first phase, which is to be distributed amongst 100 rickshaw pullers and their families in the initial phase. The communications and donations are being managed from "share your fare" official social media channel (Facebook page).
However, the project will collect the donation through designated bank accounts and other mobile wallets, and to maintain transparency for the distribution cycle and to avoid duplication, the project team is retaining a proper database containing contributors' details.
During the initial 3 month phase of the project, partners in charge will distribute 100% of the proceeds to the rickshaw pullers community & the amount will be disbursed at a regular interval.
