'No actual vaccine was being produced at that facility': SII CEO

Serum Institute of India (SII) CEO Adar Poonawalla on Friday said: "No actual vaccine was being produced at that facility. No damage to vaccine," assuring that production of Covid-19 vaccine was not hampered due to the fire incident at SII's Pune facility Thursday, reports the NDTV.

According to SII executive director Dr Suresh Jadhav, the fire was reported at the facility where BCG vaccine-related work was on. The facility where Covishield vaccine is being manufactured and stored is far away from this facility, said Jadhav.
The call was received at 2.50pm after which 10 fire tenders and at least two tankers have been rushed to the spot, said Pune mayor Murlidhar Mohol.
At least five were killed in a fire that tore through India's Covid-19 vaccine producer Serum Institue of India on Thursday. The deaths were confirmed by Pune district collector Rajesh Deshmukh.
Nine persons were evacuated from a building in the Serum Institute of India's Manjari premises here after a fire broke out there on Thursday, police said.
