Dateline Khulna: Two dead, houses damaged
The cyclonic storm destroyed numerous makeshift houses and plantations were destroyed after causing mass havoc for four-hours in the coastal district.
An elderly woman in Dacope upazila of Khulna was killed today around 10am when a tree collapsed on her house after Cyclone Bulbul battered the coastal district.
The deceased is Pramila Mandol, 52, wife of Subash mandol of southern Dacope village in the upazila.
According to local people, Pramila went to her house from the cyclone shelter during the storm to get a few things when a coconut tree fell on her house, killing her on the spot.
In another incident, a man named Alamgir, 35, was killed in Dhigoliya upazila of Khulna after a tree fell on him during stormy weather at 9.30am.
Mohammad Helal Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Khulna district, confirmed the matter, adding, "Major damage could be avoided due to the preparedness of the district administration."

Azizul Islam, officer in charge of Khulna district control room, said, "More than six hundred makeshift houses in Koyra and Dacope upazilas, including several plantations, were destroyed during the storm."
Meteorologist Amirul Azad, acting officer of the Khulna District Meteorological Office, said "Cyclone Bulbul made landfall on the coasts of Sundarbans around 10pm yesterday. At around 3am, the cyclone rushed towards Khulna, Mongla, Bagerhat and Pirojpur, crossing Shyamnagar and Koyra of Satkhira."
"However, there is no possibility of further storm surges due to the absence of tides in the rivers," he added.
Cyclone Bulbul is currently flowing over Khulna, Mongla, Bagerhat and Pirojpur, increasing at a maximum speed of 70km per hour.
