Provide farmers the best paddy varieties: Agriculture minister
Cultivation of these varieties will lead to a manifold increase in paddy production from the same land
Agriculture Minister Md Abdur Razzak has directed relevant authorities to provide farmers the best varieties of paddy, developed by The Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (Brri) and Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (Bina).
Among the many good varieties developed by the Brri and Bina, Bri-87 and Bina-16 cultivation should be quickly popularized amongst farmers because their cultivation will lead to a manifold increase in paddy production from the same land, said Abdur Razzak while reviewing the implementation progress of the annual development project at a meeting on Thursday.
The minister said the annual development projects have to be implemented as per targets within the remaining five months of this financial year. Execution must not be delayed under any circumstances.
Agriculture Ministry Secretary Md Mesbahul Islam, who conducted the meeting, highlighted the progress of the projects, and said the ministry had exceeded the national average as of December 2020 in the current financial year.
He urged the project managers to continue this trend and adhere to the target, while maintaining quality.
