Banks open from 10am to 1pm during shutdown
But bankers have to stay at work till 3:00pm
Banks will remain open for three hours from 10:00am to 1:00pm during the nationwide shutdown enforced to contain the spread of coronavirus.
The government initially imposed the shutdown across the country since March 26 and asked banks to keep their services open on a limited scale so that people could collect money to meet their financial needs.
The Bangladesh Bank then directed banks to provide services to their customers for two hours from 10:00am every day.
The government has extended the shutdown till April 9 and the central bank then extended banks' transaction period by an hour.
As per the central bank circular issued on Thursday, banks will remain open from April 5 to 9.
But bankers have to stay at their branches and the respective departments of the head office till 3:00pm, read the circular.
The central bank has asked banks to provide cash transaction, cheque clearing, demand draft, pay orders, treasury chalan submission, and other services under the payment and clearing system.
Banks can maintain a roster of employees at their branches and opt for a work-from-home system. They do not need to open all their branches, the circular added.
