Banks in industrial areas to be open on Friday, Saturday
Banks will continue transactions from 10am to 12noon on Friday, and from 10am to 2.30pm on Saturday
The branches of banks in the industrial areas will remain open next Friday and Saturday to facilitate payment of salaries and bonus to garment workers ahead of Eid-ul Fitr, said a circular issued by the Bangladesh Bank yesterday.
The areas where banks will remain open include Dhaka, Savar, Tongi, Gazipur, Bhaluka in Mymensingh, Narayanganj and Chattogram.
The banks will continue transactions from 10am to 12noon on Friday, and from 10am to 2.30pm on Saturday, it adds.
The branches of banks will remain open on condition of maintaining social distancing as per health safety guidelines to continue export-import activities amid the Covid-19 outbreak.
Currently, banks are open for a limited number of hours during the nationwide shutdown enforced to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.
Earlier, the government declared holidays from March 26 to April 4 aiming to prevent the spread of the deadly virus. Later, it was extended till end of May in phases.
