M.A. Kashem has been elected as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Southeast Bank PLC.
He was unanimously elected Chairman of the Bank in its 743rd Board Meeting held on 29th September 2024.
M.A. Kashem is the Founder Chairman and Sponsor Director of Southeast Bank PLC. He is the Chairman of Rose Corner (Pvt.) Limited. M.A. Kashem is a Member of North South University Trust and a founder life-member of North South University Foundation. He has served as its Chairman four times and was also Chairman of the NSU Foundation's Endowment Committee several times.
M.A. Kashem is the former President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), the apex body of all the business communities of Bangladesh. He was the Chairman of the Arbitration Tribunal of FBCCI. He is the past Chairman of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB), which represented all private universities of the country.
M.A. Kashem was a member of the Board of Trustees of Hamdard Laboratories (WAQF) Bangladesh, the leading producer of herbal medicines in the sub-continent, for over 17 (seventeen) years. He was the President of the SAHIC Trust (Society for Assistance to Hearing Impaired Children), the only voluntary organisation rendering healthcare assistance for ear, nose, and throat services to destitute and poor patients. He is a life member of SAHIC.
M.A. Kashem is an eminent industrialist, renowned patron of education, distinguished philanthropist, and an active social worker. He was the winner of the "President Export Trophy Award" for the years 1982-83 and 1983-84 for excellent export performance. He also received the "C.R. Das Gold Medal" for his excellent contribution to the industrial sector in 1995. He was awarded the "Highest Tax Payer-2011" and again in 2016-2017 by the National Board of Revenue (NBR). Recently, he has been awarded the Abu Rushd Memorial Award for promoting higher education.
M.A. Kashem was the leader of a 20-member FBCCI trade delegation to Far Eastern countries in 1986. He was also the leader of a 5-member government delegation to the UK, USA, and Canada, sponsored by the UNDP in 1987, and leader of a 12-member Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Government of Bangladesh delegation to EEC countries in 1985. As an industrialist, he travelled to almost all major cities of the world many times on his own business, leading FBCCI trade delegations as well as those from North South University.
He has established a trust named the M. Kashem Trust to foster education for primary and mid-level students in schools in his locality. Moreover, a general hospital with 50 beds, named "Tareque Memorial-Ibrahim General Hospital", has been established by the Trust in his Upazila, Chhagalnaiya, Feni. It is a non-profit organisation. The Trust has also awarded stipends and scholarships to meritorious students over the last few years.
As a philanthropist, M.A. Kashem set up the Kashem Complex at Darogarhat, Chhagalnaiya, which contains a madrasa, mosque, Eidgah, public graveyard, and other training centres. He has also erected free dwelling houses for the poor and destitute people in his locality.
M.A. Kashem is a member of the Kurmitola Golf Club, Baridhara Cosmopolitan Club Limited, Gulshan Club Limited, Rotary Club of Dhaka West, National Shooting Club, Bangladesh Diabetic Association, and a life member of Anjuman Mufidul Islam, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, and Shishu Hospital, Chittagong.
