Garment workers demonstrate over ‘sacking of co-worker’ in Narayanganj
The agitated protesters also beat up some of the factory officials including General Manager Monir Hossain, said police
Workers of the Moonlux Composite Knit Garments Ltd demonstrated in Narayanganj's Siddhirganj on Monday, protesting the sacking of a co-worker.
Saikat Shaheen, superintendent of police (acting) of the Narayanganj Industrial Police-4, said the garment factory authorities on Sunday sacked Aminul Islam, an operator of the factory and leader of the workers.
On Monday morning, fellow workers demonstrated on the factory premises demanding the reinstatement of Aminul. But the authorities concerned refused to pay heed to their demand, leading them to vandalise glasses of office room, managing director's room, and the conference room.
The agitated protesters also beat up some of the factory officials including General Manager Monir Hossain, said Saikat Shaheen.
On information, a team of 40 police personnel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Owner Mahiuddin told reporters that the vandalism caused huge damage to the factory property.
He said the dues of Aminul were paid after he had informed the authorities that he would not work from January.
