BSEC to bring rumour-mongers under Digital Security Act
Logos of BSEC, the Dhaka Stock Exchange and Chittagong Stock Exchange may not be used on any platform
The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has asked all individuals and groups to refrain from disseminating information through social media regarding which stock prices on the market will rise or fall.
At the same time, BSEC has asked the general public to refrain from using logos of the BSEC, Dhaka Stock Exchange and Chittagong Stock Exchange on the profile or page of individuals or groups on any platform including social media.
Otherwise, the securities regulator will take action in the interest of investors under the Securities Act and the Digital Security Act.
This was stated in a directive signed by BSEC Chairman Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam on Wednesday.
A BSEC official said a group of people has been spreading rumors as predictions, price forecasting and undisclosed information through social media platforms like Facebook; negatively affecting general investors.
To prevent such practices, the securities regulator has taken this action to enhance good governance on the stock market, he added.
