A number of music industry associations have spoken against harassment in the name of copyright protection
Music associations including Bangladesh Musical Band Association (BAMBA), Music Industry Owner's Association of Bangladesh (MIOAB) and Bangladesh Film Producers and Distributors Association (BFPDA) jointly held a press conference today at a restaurant in the capital.
In the joint press conference, association members spoke about the alleged misconduct by a lawyer named Olora Afrin.
Olora Afrin, the accused lawyer, has obtained permission from her Licensing and Collecting Society for Cinematograph Films. Her legal firm is said to have sent various lawsuits and notices to musicians on copyright issues.
The lawyer has been accused for sending notices to many individuals of the music industry, in case they did not agree to her immoral proposal. The sufferers were Zooel Morshed, Nafis, Jamshed and Sanji of Qinetic Network. Jamshed has served jailtime regarding this issue.
"Miles has turned 40. There are others who have a long career like us. But all of a sudden, we are being harassed and jailed because of outsiders. Should we go to jail now, or will we quit music?" Hamin Ahmed said in the conference.
Olora Afrin's recorded phone call was played at the press conference. In the phone call, she talks about suing musicians over and over again.
