Elon Musk reiterates call to 'Nuke Mars'
Profits from the $25 t-shirt on SpaceX's website are unlikely to go towards actually carrying out the plan.
Technology entrepreneur and investor Elon Musk has again called for blasting Mars with nuclear weapons to create a habitable planet for humans.
Five years ago, Musk, the SpaceX founder and CEO had presented his idea of dropping nuclear bombs over the poles of Mars.
Recently, Musk has reiterated his idea through a series of tweets and a new t-shirt being sold by SpaceX.
Musk has also changed his Twitter profile picture to an image displaying the t-shirt's slogan: "Nuke Mars."
Profits from the $25 t-shirt on SpaceX's website are unlikely to go towards actually carrying out the plan.
His belief is to explode nuclear bombs over the Martian poles to release the carbon dioxide locked in frozen reserves beneath the planet’s surface.
"It is a fixer upper of a planet," he told. "Eventually you can transform Mars into an Earth-like planet.
"There's a fast way and a slow way. The fast way is drop the nuclear weapons over the poles," he said.
Elon Musk has also stated that he wants to die on Mars, not on the impact.
A recent study in Nature Astronomy ended up by saying-- terraforming Mars is not possible using present-day technology".
Another concern is that the blast might throw massive clouds that would block out the sunlight, instead of causing the planet to cool down.
