She said bureaucratic processes are frequently delaying the Rohingyas’ access to medical care, causing lasting harm or death
International Ambassador for Human Rights of the UK Rita French has urged Bangladesh to ease the excessive restrictions on the Rohingya people considering the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.
She made this statement at a dialogue on the human rights situation of the Rohingyas arranged by the UN Human Rights Council.
Rita expressed deep concern of the UK about Rohingya peoples' freedom of movement.
"The legitimate Covid-19 restrictions are affecting the Rohingyas disproportionately. The restrictions have been more acute in recent months."
"Bureaucratic processes are frequently delaying their access to medical care, causing lasting harm or death," she added.
Rita also welcomed Myanmar's commitment to complying with the provisional measures of the International Court of Justice, and asked the Myanmar government to ease restrictions, reform the current documentation process and authorise an independent enquiry commission in line with the recommendations from the Rakhine Advisory Commission.
