Bangladesh started like the favourites in their first match of the SA Games as they demolished the Maldives by 109 runs.
Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hossain won the toss and elected to bat first at Kirtipur in Nepal.
They got off to a flier as Mohammad Naim and Soumya Sarker added 59 runs in 7.3 overs. Naim scored 38 and Soumya fell for 46.
Captain Nazmul also chipped in with a quick-fire 49 runs of 38 balls. He was the highest scorer for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh ended up scoring 174/4 in their allotted 20 overs.
In reply, Maldives were blown away by the Bangladeshi spinners. The Maldives were bowled out for only 65 in 19.2 overs.
Tanvir Islam was the destroyer in chief with figures of 5/19 from his four overs.
Minhazul Afridi and Afif Hussein got two wickets each.
Tanvir was the player of the match. According to Tanvir, Pitch was supporting the bowlers.
"It feels great to get off to a winning start. The pitch was supporting me a lot as I was getting some turn. I tried to bowl good areas and ended up picking five wickets." he said.
Bangladesh will face Bhutan on December 6.
