Around 50-60 shanties were completely burnt to ashes in a major fire which broke out at Kolkata's Topsia area on Tuesday afternoon. At least six fire tenders were pressed into service to control the blaze, which was first spotted around 3.30pm.
"No one was injured in the fire. Our officers are trying their best to bring the fire under control," a fire department official said.
In a video shared on Twitter, a cloud of smoke was seen billowing out from the area.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee later visited the spot.
