2 ship-breakers die, 13 injured in Ctg
They were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and to Al Amin Hospital in Chattogram city
Two workers died and 13 were critically injured after falling from the top of a ship while working at a ship-breaking yard in Chattogram on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Aminul, 56 son of Abdul Quader from Mirsarai upazila in Chattogram, and Tushar Chakma, 27 son of Surjo Kumar Chakma, from the Panchhari in Khargachari district.
Three of the injured were identified as Alamgir Hossain, 35, Jagodish Chakma, 47, Md Faruk Hossain, 32. The others had not been identified when this report was filed.
Shamim Sheikh, Officer-in-Charge of Sitakunda police station told The Business Standard, “15 workers fell from a great height at Ziri Subedar Steel ship-breaking yard in the Baro Awlia area in Sitakunda while working there at around 5:20pm. Two of them died and 13 were critically injured.”
“They were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and to Al Amin Hospital in Chattogram city,” said the OC.
ASI Alauddin Talukdar of the CMCH police outpost said that so far seven injured workers have been brought to the hospital. The doctors on-duty declared two of them dead. The other five are undergoing treatment at CMCH.
