"These rivers face severe threats from multiple factors, including encroachment, unplanned construction of bridges, dams and sluice gates, sedimentation and industrial waste pollution," he added.
According to Bela, the Khulna rivers at risk include Sholmari, Chunkuri, Rupsa, Bhadra, Mayur, Hari, Hamkura, Pashur, Mukteshwari, Harihar, Ichamati, Garai, Kaliganga, Bhairab, Kopotakkho, Madhumati, Nabaganga, Chitra, Kumar, Atharobanki, Payala, Mathabhanga, Baleshwar, Bhola, Marichap, Kakshial, Mongla-Ghasiakhali Channel, Kholpetua, Ghangrai, Shibshah, Teligati, Guachapa, Hariabhanga, Guakhali, Salta, Labanyabati, and Chuna.
