4 children killed after being hit by microbus in Kushtia
Angry locals have since blocked the Kushtia-Rajbari highway in protest of the incident
Four children were killed after being hit by a microbus in Kushtia's Khoksa upazila this morning (29 September).
The tragic accident occurred around 7:30am in the Kuthipara area of the Kushtia-Rajbari regional highway in Shimulia union as the children were returning home from their Quran lessons at a local mosque.
Angry locals have since blocked the Kushtia-Rajbari highway in protest of the incident.
Kushtia highway police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Akul Chandra Biswas confirmed the accident and the deaths.
The deceased have been identified as Mim, 12, Tanzila, 11, and Juthi, 12, all from Shimulia Kuthipara village.
The identity of the fourth victim could not be immediately confirmed.
Shimulia union parishad Chairman Abdul Kuddus said, "The children were returning home after completing their Quran lessons at the Shimulia Kuthipara Jame Mosque when they were hit by a speeding microbus while crossing the Kushtia-Rajbari highway. The vehicle then overturned into a nearby pond."
"One of the children died on the spot, while the other three succumbed to their injuries at the hospital," he added.
OC Akul Chandra Biswas said, "The collision with the microbus led to the death of four children. Protesters have blocked the Kushtia-Rajbari regional highway in response to the incident.
