ACC to investigate former Jashore mayor, 2 MPs
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to investigate corruption allegations against former Cumilla-8 member of parliament Nasimul Alam Chowdhury, former MP of Chattogram-3 Mahfuzur Rahaman Mita and former mayor of Jashore municipality Zahurul Islam Chakladar, alias Rentu Chakladar
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to investigate corruption allegations against former Cumilla-8 member of parliament Nasimul Alam Chowdhury, former MP of Chattogram-3 Mahfuzur Rahaman Mita and former mayor of Jashore municipality Zahurul Islam Chakladar, alias Rentu Chakladar.
A senior ACC official confirmed the matter today (September 19).
According to ACC sources, Nasimul amassed huge wealth through various irregularities and abuse of power.

He has over Tk1 crore in investments in BJ Geo Textile Limited, has two flats in Dhaka's Banani DOHS and Nikunja, 17 shops in Cumilla's Barura Bazar, two multi-storeyed homes in Cumilla, alongside land in the same area.
A decision was taken by the commission to conduct an open inquiry as the intelligence probe found that he had illegally acquired these assets beyond any known income.
Besides, former MP Mahfuzur Rahaman also had wealth beyond his known source of income.
His annual income, according to his affidavit, had shot up from Tk47 lakh to Tk94 lakh in ten years.
His moveable assets also rose by 199%. Meanwhile, his wife's income rose from Tk6 lakh to Tk20 lakh between 2014 and 2024.
Mahfuzur is also alleged to have smuggled crores to different countries, including the US, alongside still holding a number of properties, such as land in Motijheel, Purbachal and Uttara, among others.
Meanwhile, Zahurul Islam Chakladar's wealth statement showed he had not much wealth personally or ancestrally before 2016.
But after becoming mayor, he amassed huge wealth.
In 2018, he is also alleged to have committed various irregularities in the construction of 72 roads and installation of lights in the city.
He amassing about 40 acres of land through irregularities in drainage management and waste management to eliminate waterlogging in the city.
He built a huge garden house on about 100 bigha land in Arabpur area of Jashore and also a feed mill on 20 bigha land.
According to confidential sources, he also holds top positions in several schools and colleges in the Jashore area through which he earned a huge amount of money via the recruitment business.
