Biman flight returns to Dubai after windshield crack
The incident occurred on Saturday night (7 September) on a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight bound for Dhaka from the UAE was forced to make an emergency return to Dubai on Saturday night after a crack appeared in the cockpit windshield.
The flight, BG-348, operating a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, was en route from Dubai to Dhaka on Saturday night when the incident occurred. The pilot immediately turned back to Dubai after discovering the issue while flying over Oman.
Boshra Islam, general manager (public relations) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, said, "After a crack was detected in the cockpit glass, the captain decided to return the plane to Dubai. The passengers are currently in Dubai. A rescue flight has been sent to Dubai to bring them back home."
Airline sources said that the rescue flight departed for Dubai from Dhaka at 12:50pm on Sunday. The flight will reach Dubai at 5pm local time. It will depart Dubai with the stranded passengers at 10:50pm Bangladesh time.
This is not the first instance of a Biman flight facing technical difficulties during a journey.
Earlier in June, A Boeing 737-7 model Biman flight headed from Chattogram to Abu Dhabi was forced to make an emergency landing in Dhaka after its windshield cracked.
On 21 January, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner model plane flying from Dhaka to Saudi Arabia faced the same problem when it was carrying 297 passengers on board. The windshield had also cracked a few hours after takeoff.
