BM College students block Dhaka-Barishal highway demanding exam fee cut
A group of Government BM College students in Barishal took to the streets on Thursday to demand the reduction of the honours 3rd-year examination fees held under the National University (NU).
The students staged demonstrations by blocking the Nathullahbad Central Bus Terminal on the Dhaka-Barishal highway this morning to press their demand.
The protesting students took out a procession and blocked the Hospital Road adjacent to their college campus at the heart of the city. Later, they blocked the highway following the authorities' "tone-deaf response" to their demand.
"The college authorities reduced Tk600 from the required amount to fill up the examination form at the time of the coronavirus pandemic but later they changed their decision asking students to pay the full amount," said Mamun, a third-year student of the college.
BM college Principal Dr Golam Mohammod Kibria said, "We have assured the students that the college would not charge any unnecessary fees from the student, however, the fee that has been fixed for the exam registration is the cost of tutorials and course exams of the college."
