BMD director Azizur Rahman resigns amid protests
Md Azizur Rahman has stepped down from his position as the director of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
Meteorologist Dr Mohammad Abul Kalam Mallik confirmed the news this (19 August) afternoon.
He said the director voluntarily resigned in response to the protests that began yesterday.
The meteorologist urged the protesters to remain calm, promising that further decisions would be made tomorrow.
Employees of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department have been staging protests with their nine-point demands aimed at reforming the department.
Their demands include a new organisational structure, fair recruitment and promotion practices, an end to corruption and harassment, and improved working conditions.
The staff also emphasised the need for efficient resource management and better public service delivery.
