Cop dies after being hit by train in Sylhet

A policeman died after being hit by a train in the Shibbari area of Dakshin Surma upazila of Sylhet on Wednesday (18 September).
The deceased was identified as Zahirul Haque of Matiyarbahar village of Madhyanagar upazila of Sunamganj. He was a constable in the South Surma Police Station.
The accident occurred in the Shibbari area of South Surma of the town around 9:30pm on Wednesday, said Md Saiful Islam Patwari, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sylhet Railway Police Station.
On information, police from Sylhet Railway Police Station and Dakshin Surma Police visited the spot. The body was recovered and sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, he added.
Raju, son of the victim, said his father went to Shibbari Ahle Sunnah Jame Masjid to offer Esha prayers. "My father died on the spot when he was hit by a train while returning home after praying," he said.
