A Dinajpur court rejected the bail plea of Rabiul, an accused in the case
A Dinajpur court has fixed 29 December for hearing on the chargesheet in the case of attack on the Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) in the district.
Dinajpur Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Bishwanath Mandal passed the order at noon on Thursday.
According to court sources, the police brought Rabiul, an accused in the case, to the court under tight security at 12pm on Thursday.
At the time, his lawyer Saidur Rahman applied to the court for his bail.
When the Additional Public Prosecutor Shah Dorakh Shan objected to the bail application, the judge rejected Rabiul's bail plea.
Additional Public Prosecutor Shah Dorakh Shan said, "The court set 29 December as the date for framing the charges in the case. After the court hearing, the accused was later sent to jail."
He said earlier the investigating officer of the case, Officer-in-charge (OC) at the Detective Branch of Dinajpur police Imam Abu Jafar, filed a chargesheet against the accused on 21 November at the Senior Judicial Magistrate's court (Ghoraghat) after conducting an investigation.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate later referred the case to the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court for speedy judicial proceedings and disposal on Thursday, he added.
On 3 September, UNO Wahida and her father were brutally attacked inside their government quarters. When both fainted after severe blood loss, the attacker presumed them dead and fled the scene.
Later that night, Wahida's elder brother Sheikh Farid Uddin filed a case over the incident against four to five unidentified individuals at Ghoraghat police station.
Eight days after the incident, detectives arrested Rabiul from his home.
Rabiul is the son of Khatibuddin of Bijora village in Bijora union of Biral upazila of Dinajpur and was working as a gardener at UNO's residence.
Rabiul pleaded guilty in court on 20 September after the arrest.
