Barishal District Chhatra League president on three-day remand
District Chhatra League President Hemayet Uddin Sumon Serniabat has been remanded for three days by a court in Dhaka in the case of arson in the Barishal BNP office.
He is also the office secretary of the Barishal Metropolitan Awami League.
Barishal Metropolitan Kotwali Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman said to The Business Standard, "The arrested accused was remanded for 10 days. The court has granted a three-day remand."
Barishal Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Nurul Amin gave this order today.
Earlier, Sumon was arrested from Dhaka on Tuesday (24 September).
Zahid Faruk Shamim, former state minister for water resources and district Awami League vice-president, was also arrested in the same case.
On 4 August, the district and metropolitan BNP offices were vandalised, attacked and set on fire in Barishal.
On 23 August, the convener of metropolitan BNP Moniruzzaman Khan Faruk filed a case at Kotwali Model Police Station.
Names of 381 people were mentioned in the case.
Besides, another 600-700 people have been named as accused.
