Ex-justice Manik shown arrested in another murder case
A court today showed retired justice of the Appellate Division AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik arrested in a case lodged over the murder of Abdul Motalib in the capital during the recent anti-discrimination student-led mass uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Arifur Rahman passed the order, scrapping the bail plea filed for the retired justice.
Earlier on 18 September, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zaki Al Farabi showed Justice Manik arrested in six separate murder cases. Of the six cases, four were filed with Badda Police Station, one with Lalbagh Police Station and another with Adabor Police Station.
Abdul Motalib, 14, joined the anti-discrimination student movement on August 4 in Dhanmandi area. He got shot on his throat and chest as police opened fire on the students. He later succumbed to his injuries. His father Abdul Matin filed the case on August 26 with Dhanmandi Police Station against 176 people including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina. Another 250/300 unnamed people were accused in the case.
Earlier the former Apex court justice was detained by BGB from a banana orchard, along the border with India, under Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet on August 23, as he was trying to flee the country.
