Expatriate sues Mashrafe over 'forcible take over' of Sylhet Strikers shares
The expatriate accused the former national cricket team captain and his men of forcibly taking over shares worth Tk4.5 crore in 2023
Cricketer-turned-politician Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has been sued for alleged "forcible take over" of a US expatriate's shares of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) team Sylhet Strikers.
The expatriate, Sarowar Golam Chowdhury, filed the case with the Pallabi Police Station in the capital's Mirpur, according to the case statement seen by The Business Standard.
Sarwar was the chairman of Sylhet Strikers at the time of its purchase from the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
The expatriate accused the former national cricket team captain and his men of forcibly taking over shares worth Tk4.5 crore in 2023.

The case statement also alleges that Mashrafee and his men gave death threats to Sarwar instead of paying him for the shares.
Mashrafe, one of the most popular cricketers in Bangladesh's history, turned to politics in recent years and joined the Awami League. In December 2018, he won a seat in parliament, with 96% of the votes in his constituency, Narail-2. He was re-elected to the constituency in the 12th JS polls.
In February 2019, he became a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Youth and Sports Ministry of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad. He also served as the youth and sports secretary of Bangladesh Awami League starting from December 2022.
