The father of a teenage girl in the capital's Kamrangirchar permitted a man to rape his daughter as he failed to repay loans, police said.
"The father permitted the man to commit the crime as the former owes the latter Tk6,000," Kamrangirchar Police Station Sub-Inspector Sheikh Md Morshed Ali told The Business Standard.
The victim was admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Centre at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital around 1am on Wednesday.
Morshed said the 13-year-old girl lives with her father and her mother is an expatriate.
"The father worked in a poultry shop around a year ago and borrowed Tk6,000 from the owner. As he failed to repay the loan, the shop owner proposed that he convince his daughter for a sexual relationship with him [the owner]," he said.
At one stage, the girl gave in to her father's demand and the shop owner had been raping her for days.
On Monday, the victim disclosed the matter to a neighbour and sought help.
"The neighbour called 999 on Tuesday and police rescued the girl," Morshed said.
Police arrested the father on Tuesday night and are conducting drives to apprehend the suspect.
"The suspect has gone into hiding and we are trying to arrest him," Morshed said.
A case also has been filed in this connection.
