Halda Valley Tea Estate manager, assistant manager jailed
Chattogram Forest Court Judicial Magistrate Jihan Sanjida passed the order on Tuesday, denying their bail plea
A Chattogram court on Tuesday sent Halda Valley Tea Estate Manager Md Jahangir Alam and Assistant Manager Rajib Ahmed Rana to jail in a case filed under The Forest Act, 1927.
Judicial Magistrate of Chattogram Forest Court Jihan Sanjida passed the order, rejecting their bail plea.
Forest Ranger Uttam Kumar Dutta, forest case affairs director, represented the state.
Md Nayeemul Islam, beat forester from Balukhali, filed the case in the forest court against the duo on charges of removing saplings and attempting to occupy the lands in Balukhali, Narayanhat range at Fatikchhari in the Chattogram North Divisional Forest.
Earlier, the forest official filed a general diary in the Bhujpur Police Station in this regard.
"On August 26, 2019, led by Halda Valley Tea Estate manager and assistant manager, its workers removed at least 500 saplings that the forest officials planted and attempted to occupy the lands in the Ramgarh-Sitakunda Reserve Forest in Fatikchhari upazila. They also tried to attack the forest workers with locally made weapons," said Range Officer Surjit Chowdhury of Narayanhat range.
"Around 20 cases were also filed against Md Jagangir Alam and Rajib Ahmed Rana for trying to forcibly occupy reserve forest," he added.
