Pabna MP stands by UP chairman arrested for relief embezzlement
MP Firoz Kabir even went to the Pabna Chief Judicial Magistrate Court for his bail on Tuesday
Firoz Kabir, member of parliament (MP) from the Pabna-2 constituency, has allegedly plead for bail of a union parishad chairman arrested for embezzling rice marked for relief.
Firoz, also the organising secretary of the district Awami League, took the side of the UP chairman and went to the Pabna Chief Judicial Magistrate Court for his bail on Tuesday, reports our Pabna correspondent.
He claimed that the chairman took the rice to his own storage for the sake of security as the area is dominated by extremists and terrorists.
Earlier on Monday night, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Korban Sardar Ali, the UP chairman and also Union Awami League President of Dhalarchar, Pabna, with 229 sacks of relief rice.
Later, a case was filed against Korban with the Aminpur police station.
"Instead of keeping the sacks of rice in the UP building, he brought those to his own storage," said Commander Aminul Kabir of RAB-12 Pabna Camp.
The district Awami League also suspended Korban's primary membership along with all other memberships in compliance with orders from the central committee.
Meanwhile, party membership of the upazila Awami League President Abdul Baten was also suspended on Tuesday for taking Korban's side.
The suspension order will be effective from April 14, reads a press release signed by the district Awami League acting president Rezaul Rahmi Lal, General Secretary Golam Farooq Prince and Central Awami League Organising Secretary SM Kamal.
