Secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir's Dhaka University SM Farhad recently came to limelight as it was revealed that he held a position in Chhatra League as well.
The revelation dominated discussions on social media, with many netizens posting memes and statuses on "secret Shibirs".
SM Farhad, is a student of 2017-2018 session at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research and a resident of Kabi Jasimuddin Hall, reports bangla daily the Prothom Alo.
His political affiliations took social media by storm yesterday (22 September) following which Prothom Alo investigated and confirmed from a leader of Shibir's DU unit that Farhad did indeed hold the positions of the secretary of the student political party.
He has also held the post of the joint general secretary of Dhaka University Social Welfare and Research Institute Branch of Chhatra League since 2022.
Even photos of Farhad sitting with other BCL leaders of the campus have become viral overnight.
However, Farhad could not be contacted for comments.
Earlier, the president of Shibir's DU unit Sadik Kayem was talked about after he joined a view exchange meeting with the university administration on Saturday (21 September).
Sadik is a student of the 2016-17 session at the university's Political Science department. Both Sadik and Farhad passed their Alim examinations from Chattogram's Baitush Sharaf Kamil Madrasa.
People who know Farhad were surprised after learning about his identity as a Shibir leader.
"When us friends would gather on campus and have tea, Farhad would often join us. At no point did we know he was also a Shibir activist," a former DU student told The Business Standard requesting anonymity.
Farhad was the President of the Jashimuddin Hall's Debating Club during the 2022-23 session.
Contacted, Shibir's DU unit President Sadik said their leaders are coming before the public eye following their organisational decision.
"We will announce the DU committee of our party very soon. The previous fascist regime had forced us to go underground. We want a respite from this. We want everyone to do their politics and express their views freely," Sadik told Prothom Alo.
