Students of Islami University continued their movement for the appointment of a vice chancellor for the third consecutive day today (22 September).
During the last two days, the students had blocked the Kushtia-Khulna highway and staged protest rallies.
At 11:00am today, the students gathered at Bot Tola premises of the campus. From there, they brought out a procession, paraded through the administrative building, faculty buildings, residential halls and reached the main gate of the university.
The students then blocked the Kushtia-Khulna highway in front of the main gate and staged a rally again, which caused intense traffic congestion on the road.
At the rally, the students said as the previous VC resigned after the fall of the Awami League government, the position has remained vacant, leading to stagnation in the university's administrative activities.
The students added that the reason behind their movement is the quick appointment of a VC.
They also warned that they will be forced to take tougher actions if a VC isn't appointed soon.
During the rally, the students reiterated their wish to leave the streets and return to classes, saying that they want an honest, efficient VC who will reign in corruption in the university.
