Prof Muhammad Yeahia made acting VC of Chittagong University
Chittagong University appointed Muhammad Yeahia Akhter, a retired professor from the political science department of the university as the acting vice-chancellor (VC).
Ministry of Education issued a notification today (18 September) confirming his appointment, which was approved by the President and chancellor.
The notification further mentioned that the appointment would be effective from the date of his joining the position.
Earlier, on 12 August, facing demands for the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor and other administrative officials, VC Prof Dr Md Abu Taher and two Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Professor Benu Kumar Dey and Professor Sekandar Chowdhury, resigned.
Since then, Chittagong University has been without administration for more than a month.
Professor Dr Yeahia Akhter has been teaching in the Political Science Department at Chittagong University since 1982.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and a master's degree in Political Science from Rajshahi University, a second master's degree in the same field from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and a PhD from the University of Sydney, Australia.
