Env adviser calls for measures for eco-friendly construction, pollution prevention
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has called for constructing eco-friendly buildings in future projects under the ministry's departments.
Environmentally friendly construction materials, such as block bricks, should be used, she said on Thursday (30 August) while speaking as the chief guest at a meeting held in the ministry's conference room to review the progress of the Annual Development Program for the fiscal year 2024-25 up to July.
Building designs should allow work to be done during the day using natural sunlight without the need for electric lighting. The buildings must also be designed to ensure adequate airflow, she said.
The advisor also directed the director general of the Department of Environment to work on raising awareness to prevent river pollution, noise pollution, and plastic pollution.
She stressed the need for effective measures to stop the use of plastic banners as well as accurate reporting for shipbreaking inspections.
She also advised the chief conservator of forests to focus on wildlife conservation, modern management of safari parks, and planting indigenous trees instead of eucalyptus.
The meeting was attended by the ministry's secretary, additional secretaries, heads of departments, project directors, and other relevant officials.
Earlier in the morning, the adviser distributed certificates as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the orientation course for newly appointed officers of the 41st BCS at the Department of Environment.
