Ex-justice Manik granted bail in case over trying to flee to India
A Sylhet court has granted bail to AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, a retired judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme court, in a case filed over his attempt to enter India illegally.
Sylhet Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Anjan Kanti Das granted his bail, reports media.
However, he is accused in a number of other cases as well, so he will be sent to jail for now.
The former justice was detained by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) while he was allegedly trying to cross over to India from the Jakiganj border area in Sylhet on the night of 23 August.
He was later handed over to Kanaighat Police Station on Saturday morning.
According to police, a case has been filed against Manik in Dhaka.
Manik was a justice of the Appellate Division. He retired in September 2015. Later, he became a known figure to attend various Television programmes and talk shows.
