Ferry service resumes after 20 years on Aricha-Kazirhat route
The number of ferries will be increased if the pressure of passengers and vehicles increases in future
The ferry service between Aricha in Manikganj and Kazirhat in Pabna has resumed after two decades, bringing happiness to thousands of residents of both regions.
State Minister for Shipping, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, re-inaugurated the route on Saturday morning as the chief guest, reports Somoy News.
The state minister said, "The resumption of Aricha-Kazirhat ferry route will fulfil the expectation of passengers and workers from both sides and they can easily communicate with the capital within a short time."
"The number of ferries will be increased if the pressure of passengers and vehicles increases in future," he added.
Naimur Rahman Durjoy, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) chairman, among others were present in the inauguration programme.
Sagor, a truck driver who was waiting to cross the river at ghat no 3, said, "We are really happy as the route would be more affordable in terms of money and time compared with the Jamuna Bridge route which takes more than three or four hours."
