Grave of former Ctg MP Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal vandalised, set on fire
The grave of Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal, former Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) president and former member of parliament for Chattogram-8, was vandalised and set on fire by unidentified people in Chattogram today (17 September).
The incident took place around 3pm at Badal's family cemetery located in West Saroatali area under Boalkhali upazila, Golam Sarwar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Boalkhali Police Station told The Business Standard.
According to locals, a group of attackers arrived in a microbus, vandalised the graveyard, and caused extensive damage by setting it on fire before fleeing the scene.
"A team of police visited the scene following reports of vandalism and arson at the grave of former MP Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal. We are currently investigating and working to identify the perpetrators," the OC said.
Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal, a prominent figure in Chattogram politics, passed away on 7 November 2019 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bangalore, India. He was buried in his ancestral village in Saroatali, Boalkhali.
Known for his active participation in the Liberation War of 1971, Badal played a crucial role in forming the 14-party alliance led by the Awami League.
