Hasina, 49 others sued over student murder in Sutrapur
Another murder case was filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 49 others over the killing of a student during the quota reform movement in the capital's Sutrapur area on 19 July.
The victim's mother, Kulsuma Akhter, submitted an application to Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tarikul Islam's court this morning appealing to lodge a murder case against 50 accused.
Accepting the plea, the court ordered Sutrapur Police Station to record the statement of the plaintiff and register the complaint as a first information report (FIR).
Awami League General Secretary and former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud, former adviser to the ousted prime minister Salman F Rahman, former information state minister Arafat Ali, former textile minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, among others, were made accused in the case.
According to the case statement, victim Omar Faruk, a student of Kabi Nazrul College, was shot dead by police during a protest on 19 July.
