A hectare of forest land recovered from ex-union chairman in Cox's Bazar
Saplings of various plants such as Amlaki, Bahera, Haritaki, Jaam, Garjan, Chapalish, Arjun, Neem, Jarul, and Gutguita were planted in the recovered area
The Forest Department today (6 September) recovered a hectare of forest land occupied by the former chairman of Dulahazara union in Cox's Bazar's Chakaria upazila.
"During the operation, saplings of various plants such as Amlaki, Bahera, Haritaki, Jaam, Garjan, Chapalish, Arjun, Neem, Jarul, and Gutguita were planted in the recovered area," Fasiakhali Range Officer Md Mehraj Uddin told The Business Standard.
"The former chairman Hasanul Islam Ador had occupied a one-hectare plot of the Forest Department land adjacent to the Cox's Bazar-Chattogram highway a year ago, naming it a playground.
"Forest Department officials had faced assault while attempting to recover the land," the officer added.
Hasanul is a close associate of former Member of Parliament Jafar Alam from the Cox's Bazar-1 (Chakaria-Pekua) constituency. After the fall of the Hasina-led government, the Upazila Parishad removed all the chairmen of the unions in Chakaria.
