IPD advocates for monthly 'Car Free Day' on Sunday to foster policy maker understanding
The Institute for Planning and Development (IPD) has urged the government to implement a monthly "Car Free Day" on the first Sunday of each month to provide policy makers with a firsthand experience of the challenges faced by ordinary citizens who rely on public transportation.
In a statement issued to commemorate "Car Free Day" on Thursday, IPD stated such an event would highlight the pressing need to alleviate traffic congestion by regulating car usage.
The institute believes that this awareness will prompt policy makers to invest in and prioritise the enhancement of public transportation and pedestrian facilities.
Furthermore, IPD called upon the government to adopt a development approach that focuses on establishing mass-oriented transportation systems, rather than giving precedence to cars.
