Khulna student attacked by mob over Facebook comment is alive, undergoing treatment: Army
Legal process is underway to file a case against the youth, identified as Sree Utsab, on charges of hurting religious sentiment
A student, who came under mob attack in Khulna over a comment he made on Facebook which "hurt religious sentiment", is alive and currently undergoing treatment under the supervision of the Bangladesh Army, an ISPR release said today (5 September), debunking media reports that claimed he was dead.
Legal process is underway to file a case against the youth, identified as Sree Utsab, on charges of hurting religious sentiment, said the press statement.
He will be handed over to the law enforcement forces following due legal process subject to his well-being, it added.
According to the statement, on 4 September, 22-year-old Utsab made the comment which inflamed locals.
Later, locals detained him and handed him over to the Khulna deputy commissioner's office for taking legal actions.
However, soon after, some 3,000-3,500 locals arrived on the spot and demanded that Utsab be punished in public for his remarks.
Some of the agitated people entered the commissioner's office and attacked the youth.
He was later rescued by army personnel.
Earlier last night, several media outlets reported that Utsab was killed during the attack on the deputy commissioner's office.
