Army, police to conduct joint patrols in Cox’s Bazar: ISPR
A fair investigation into Sinha murder and exemplary punishment to those involved will further deepen and strengthen the existing mutual trust between the two forces, hoped the army chief and police chief
The Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Police will conduct joint patrols in Cox's Bazar to keep the law and order situation normal there and restore the confidence of the local people in the wake of the death of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan in police firing.
Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed and Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed have agreed to conduct the joint patrols there and have given necessary instructions to their respective forces to this end, said an ISPR press release issued on Thursday.
The army chief and the IGP mentioned that the killing of Sinha was "an isolated incident".
A fair investigation into the killing and ensuring exemplary punishment to those involved will further deepen and strengthen the existing mutual trust between the two forces, they hoped.
Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan was shot dead by police personnel at a police check-post on marine drive in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar, on the night of July 31.
The Bangladesh Army is deeply shocked over this unfortunate incident, said the ISPR release.
As per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a high-level joint probe committee was constituted, which started its probe on August 4.
On Wednesday, the army chief and police chief visited the spot and exchanged views with the local officers of their respective forces and gave necessary instructions to this end.
They vowed that those involved in the killing of Sinha would be brought to justice through proper trial.
They also said they have instructed their respective forces to make sure that the investigation will be conducted in a completely unbiased manner and that it will be free from interference of any sort.
