Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar laid to rest in Tangail
Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar, a 23-year-old army officer, was laid to rest in Tangail. He was stabbed to death during a raid to recover illegal firearms in Cox's Bazar's Chakaria upazila today (24 September).
His namaj-e-janaza was held at the Boali Madrasa field on Tuesday after Asar prayers.
Earlier at 3:30pm, a military helicopter carrying the officer's body landed at the district helipad, where he was received by senior military officials, along with some family members.
His body was then transported directly to his village in Korer Betka.
The incident occurred around 3:30am during a joint overnight operation led by the army in the Maizpara area of Dulahazara Union.
While conducting the operation in Maizpara village, a group of 7-8 armed robbers, upon noticing the presence of the army patrol team, attempted to flee.
Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar, who led the operation, chased some of the robbers. During the chase, the robbers attacked Lieutenant, stabbing him in the neck, resulting in severe injuries and heavy bleeding, reads a statement of the Bangladesh Army published today.
He was immediately taken to Malumghat Memorial Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
This young officer had completed his higher secondary education at Pabna Cadet College. He was commissioned into the Army Service Corps (ASC) on 8 June 2022, as part of the 82nd Long Course from the Bangladesh Military Academy.
His family members called for the arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible for his death.
