In the memorandum addressed to the EU president Ursula von der Leyen, the expats also urged the withdrawal of false cases against leaders and activists of Awami League, including its president Sheikh Hasina who stepped down as prime minister and fled to India on 5 August in the face of a mass upsurge
A group of Bangladeshi expatriates in Europe has submitted a memorandum to the European Union (EU) demanding it put pressure on the interim government to stop alleged human rights violations and killings in Bangladesh.
A large number of Bangladeshi diaspora living in EU countries, including President of All European AL Nazrul Islam, signed the memorandum.
In the memorandum addressed to the EU president Ursula von der Leyen, the expats also urged the withdrawal of false cases against leaders and activists of Awami League, including its president Sheikh Hasina who stepped down as prime minister and fled to India on 5 August in the face of a mass upsurge.
According to a press release, an EU official received the memorandum at the European Union headquarters in the Belgian capital of Brussels on Monday (2 September) afternoon.
It said that false cases one after another are being filed against Bangladesh Awami League president.
They alleged that a conspiracy was on to ban Bangladesh Awami League, the leading party in the Bengali liberation movement and independence war.
They mentioned that the historic 32 Dhanmondi house of Bangabandhi was burnt down after the fall of the AL government.
