28 Oct rally: Venue Nayapaltan, nowhere else, BNP declares
"We will hold a rally. Where it is supposed to be done [in Nayapaltan], we will do it there. Where does it say in the constitution that we need police permission for that?" BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said today
BNP will hold its 28 October rally in front of the party's Nayapaltan central office, said two senior leaders of the party today.
"We will hold a rally. Where it is supposed to be done [in Nayapaltan], we will do it there. Where does it say in the constitution that we need police permission for that?" Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, BNP standing committee member said during a discussion meeting on Wednesday (25 October).
He also said: "We are not bound to hold the rally at the place they choose."
Meanwhile, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the party's senior joint general secretary, also said the same in a press conference at the BNP's central office in Nayapaltan on Wednesday.
"All the preparations for the grand rally that will be held in front of the central office in Dhaka's Nayapaltan on Saturday are almost complete. This is the right place. We have held peaceful rallies there several times," Rizvi said.
He said that the 28 October rally would be unprecedented and historic.
"People are moving towards Dhaka despite the continued mass arrests," the BNP leader said.
BNP on 21 October took the necessary steps to secure permission from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to hold its planned grand rally on 28 October in front of their Nayapaltan central office.
Earlier on 18 October, the party announced the grand rally in the capital on 28 October to herald the 'final phase' of action and programmes in the movement to topple the current regime, thus paving the way for holding the next election under a non-party neutral government.
"We'll hold a grand rally in Dhaka on 28 October (Saturday). From this grand rally, our grand journey will begin," BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said while announcing the programme at Nayapaltan.
Stating that their planned grand rally is a partial programme of the final phase of the movement, Fakhrul hinted that the opposition will announce a series of action programmes on 28 October.
"After the grand rally, Inshallah we won't stop until the fall of this regime," he told invigorating opposition followers.
