Quota violence: Judicial inquiry commission asked to submit report in 45 days
Two more members have been included in the commission
The government has asked the judicial inquiry commission formed to investigate all incidents, including fatalities, that occurred from 16 July till 21 July, to submit its investigation report within 45 days.
The cabinet division issued a gazette notification today (1 August) outlining the commission's duties of the commission.
On 18 July, the government formed the judicial commission with High Court Justice Khondker Diliruzzaman as its head. Two other members – Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Mohammad Showkat Ali Chowdhury - have been included in the commission.
The commission has been tasked with investigating the causes of deaths occurred from 16 July till 21 July and identifying the persons responsible for the deaths.
The commission will also identify the persons involved in the violence, sabotage, arson and criminal activities carried out during the period.
Hundreds of people, including students and general citizens, were killed and scores injured during violence centring quota reform protests across the country.
On 29 July, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the number of fatalities till the day was 150.
However, several media outlets reported that the number is more than 200.
