Flood recovery efforts focus on restoring rural-urban connectivity: Adviser Hassan Arif
Arif emphasised that addressing these issues require cooperation between various agencies
AF Hassan Arif, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, has stressed the importance of restoring and protecting critical communication routes between flood-affected rural areas and cities.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting with district officials at Chittagong Circuit House today, he highlighted the urgency of repairing flood-damaged roads and preparing for future disasters.
"The flood is over, and now we must focus on repairing the roads damaged by the floodwaters," Arif said, emphasising the importance of smooth rural-to-urban transport for goods such as eggs, chicken, and vegetables. "These products can only reach city markets if the roads are in good condition," he added.
The meeting also covered other important issues like budget shortages, the post-flood situation, and the difficulties people are facing.
Arif stressed the need for different agencies to work together to solve these problems. This includes the district administration, WASA, local government bodies, city corporations, and rural development institutions.
"These challenges cannot be solved without a concerted effort from all parties involved," he said.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Hasib Aziz, Divisional Commissioner Tofail Islam, and Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanom, along with other high-ranking officials, also attended the meeting.
The meeting concluded with a pledge to prioritise fixing the most damaged roads as soon as possible, to improve rural-to-urban connectivity after the flood.
