Two students - including one belonging to the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) – were killed in a road accident at Rangpur's Taraganj upazila on the Rangpur-Dinajpur Highway on Saturday.
The accident took place when a speeding truck hit two cyclists from behind, killing them on the spot.
The deceased were identified as Helal Uddin, 12, son of Khorshed Alam, and Shariful Islam, son of Taj Uddin, of Uttar Laxmipur Mandalpara village in Taraganj upazila.
Helal was a fifth-grader at a local primary school and Shariful Islam was a final-year computer science student at Kuet.
Golam Kibria, officer-in-charge of Taraganj Highway Police, said the two were returning home on bicycles from Taraganj Bazar.
"When they reached Barati Bridge area, a Dinajpur-bound truck lost control and overturned on the side of the road. Helal Uddin and Shariful Islam were killed on the spot."
Highway police recovered the bodies and seized the truck. However, the driver and helper of the truck fled away, police said.
