Speakers at a discussion expressed views on formulation of safety law to prevent sexual harassment at workplace, ensuring proper implementation and rectification ILO convention 190 as the High Court has directives in these connections.
A consultative meeting titled "Preventing sexual harassment at workplace, formulation of safety law, and ratification of ILO Convention 190" held at the seminar hall of Bangladesh Institute of Labor Studies-Bills on Wednesday, reads a press release.
Gender Platform Bangladesh has organised the meeting where leaders of trade unions, civil society, and human rights groups expressed their views.
Bills Advisory Council Member Mesbah Uddin Ahmed presided over the programme while Shirin Akhter, MP, and member of the parliamentary standing committee of Primary and Mass Education Ministry, was present as the chief guest.
Executive Director of Bangladesh Labor Federation Ashraf Uddin coordinated the meeting while Executive Director of Awaaz Foundation Nazma Akhter delivered the welcome speech.
Among others, President of National Workers Federation Kamrul Ahsan; Acting Coordinator of Domestic Workers Rights Establishment Network Abul Hossain; Country Representative of Fair Wear Foundation Bablur Rahman; President of Bangladesh National Workers Federation ShamimAra, Director of Working Women (Programme) Sanjida; Representatives Abdul Waheed and Pulak Ranjan Dhar, Bills Executive Council member Nasreen Akhter Dina also shared their views.
Bills Advisory Council member Mesbah Uddin Ahmed said, "Formulating laws are not everything, they should be implemented properly. For this, we have to work together."
In addition to this, advocacy and publicity should be ensured to crease public awareness, the speaker added.
